Sunrise at Solomon’s Temple – Rebecca Milner

Sunrise at Solomon’s Temple is an opportunity for us to share real life examples and stories of past and present families who have lived at Solomon’s Temple and who have had a fresh start and a new beginning.

My name is Rebecca Milner and here’s my story

“In 2018, I made a few wrong decisions that lead my family and I into a position where we were moving from home to home for 2 years. My Godmother told me about a shelter she knew of, but I turned down that opportunity because like most people they hear the word shelter and come up with their own reasons of why not to go. During those two years, I was working off and on and I could not afford childcare; therefore, I could not maintain a job like I really wanted to.

Leaving my last home, I moved into a motel. I was working full time but still could not afford to stay in the motel. Three weeks later, I remembered the shelters name and number and I called right away, I did my interview and they moved me in that same week. My experience at Solomon’s Temple Foundation was not anything like what I expected. I did not want to get comfortable living in a shelter and I saw this opportunity as isolation and to get my life together. Within a month of my being there, I was blessed with childcare and the ability to work.

While getting our lives together, I focused on changing myself and focused on growth. I humbled myself so I could be able to identify my issues and what was holding me back – causing me to be stuck in a cycle of poverty. I took that time to build my relationship with God and to find out what growth really looked like when I fully submitted to him.

The staff at Solomon’s Temple were patient with us and they offered childcare for students in school. They created events and activities for the kids, they had classes for adults, and they gave our family a wonderful Christmas. In my 8th month of living at Solomon’s Temple, I came home early from work one day, and my family coach told me about an opportunity for housing. I called the contact moments later. She told me she would reach back out to me in two weeks to let me know if I was approved. A couple of hours later, she contacted me with great news about being approved. Did I mention I was 9 MONTHS pregnant? Time was ticking and I knew the baby could come any day now. I was waiting to find out when I could move in and 10 days before my baby was born, I was able to move into our new home. I am now in my place, working, building towards my goals and growing in my faith.

Thank you, Solomon’s Temple for being a blessing for my family and me.”
